Betamethasone dipropionate
Each 10g of Silkron contains 6.4 mg of betamethasone dipropionate. The package insert identifies it as a glucocorticoid corticosteroid.
According to the insert, topical corticosteroids have vasoconstrictive, antipruritic and anti-inflammatory activity. Betamethasone therefore represents the corticosteroid component of the Silkron formula.
Gentamicin sulfate
The official composition lists gentamicin sulfate at 10 mg potency per 10g of Silkron Cream.
The package insert describes gentamicin sulfate as an aminoglycoside antibiotic and states that gentamicin has bactericidal activity against many gram-negative bacteria and some Staphylococci.
