Formula comparison
Salonpas Ingredients: Gel, Patches and Liniment Compared
“Salonpas ingredients” does not have one universal answer. The Gel, the 20-piece Pain Relief Patches and the 50ml Liniment sold on this site carry different active-ingredient lists and different strengths.
The table below keeps each formula tied to its own current packaging instead of combining them into a single brand-level ingredient list.

The formulas at a glance
| Format | Active ingredients shown on the current product information | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Salonpas Gel 30g | Methyl salicylate 15%; Menthol 7% | The percentages belong to the Gel formula only. |
| Salonpas Pain Relief Patches | Methyl salicylate 6.29%; L-menthol 5.71%; DL-camphor 1.24%; Tocopheryl acetate 2% | Each patch measures about 6.5 × 4.2 cm. |
| Salonpas Liniment 50ml | L-menthol 2700mg; Methyl salicylate 2640mg; DL-camphor 1500mg; Thymol 250mg; Tocopherol acetate 50mg; Peppermint oil 50mg; Nonoyl vanillylamide 6mg | The current package presents these as amounts. This guide does not convert them into percentages. |
Gel: two listed active ingredients
Salonpas Pain Relief Gel 30g has the shortest active-ingredient list of the three products covered here: methyl salicylate 15% and menthol 7%.
The percentages above come from the Gel packaging and apply to that formulation only; they should not be used to infer the strength of a Patch or Liniment.

Patches: a four-ingredient medicated layer
The 20-piece Salonpas patch lists methyl salicylate 6.29%, L-menthol 5.71%, DL-camphor 1.24% and tocopheryl acetate 2%.
That formula is visibly different from the Gel. The patch also delivers its medicated layer in a fixed 6.5 × 4.2 cm format, so both the formulation and the application method differ.
Liniment: the longest ingredient list of the three
The 50ml Liniment package lists seven active ingredients or active-component amounts: L-menthol 2700mg, methyl salicylate 2640mg, DL-camphor 1500mg, thymol 250mg, tocopherol acetate 50mg, peppermint oil 50mg and nonoyl vanillylamide 6mg.
Those amounts are reproduced as stated on the current product information. We do not convert them into percentages because the source material used for this guide does not provide a basis for that conversion.

Why one Salonpas formula should not be copied onto another
Same brand does not mean same strength
Methyl salicylate and menthol appear in more than one Salonpas format, but the Gel and Patch list different percentages. A product name alone is not enough to determine concentration.
Salonsip is separate in this catalogue
Volga Trading classifies Salonsip Gel-Patch under the Salonsip brand, even though it is also manufactured by Hisamitsu Vietnam. Its formula uses glycol salicylate rather than simply repeating the Salonpas Patch formula. See Salonpas vs Salonsip.
Ingredients matter most when read with the directions and warnings
An ingredient list by itself does not tell you how often to apply a product, whether heat should be avoided or what to do after a skin reaction. Those instructions remain product-specific. Continue with the Salonpas uses and application guide or the Salonpas safety and precautions guide.
Source note: strengths and amounts above are transcribed from the current product information and photographed packaging/leaflets for the specific products sold on Volga Trading. Check the current pack if your formulation or market version differs.
